I’ve always been a big fan of brochure design because I think its one of the hardest mediums to design for. Brochures are often relatively small in size and packed with lots of information. This makes it very hard for a designer because you need to make the brochure eye-catching and easy to read, but still work in all the important information. AIMS

The tenth edition of Designing Designers, the International Convention of University Courses in Design, will be held during i Saloni 2009 comprising The Salone Internazionale del Mobile, The International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and Euroluce 2009, the International Lighting Exhibition, scheduled for April 22-27 2009.

Since 2000 the Designing Designers conference has focused on specific themes and on welcoming experiences, projects and considerations related to the education of tomorrow’s designers. Evidence has been given to the broader transformations that are emerging in the global Design arena, ranging from the methodological and procedural to the more technical and practical aspects colouring the new international scenarios. This is done by means of an exchange with professionals and with the industrial world in the context of i Saloni.

Many manufacturers have quite distanced themselves from a view of Design as merely a solution for technical requirements or the demand for enhanced performance. They now realize the need for a global approach, and are open to broader Design needs that incorporate scores of factors - be they experiential, communication-related, socio-cultural, emotional or physiological. This is particularly true for Euroluce, the International Lighting Exhibition, that Cosmit stages every two years as part of the larger annual furniture and Design show, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, which has traditionally provided the backdrop for the Designing Designers conference.

The tenth Designing Designers meeting in 2009 represents an irreplaceable opportunity to emphasize and disseminate the new role of Design in an increasing number of modern scenarios, and to reflect also on the needs associated with designer education and training.

Our horizons have been steadily widening, therefore, but we are still firmly committed to the raison d’être for Designing Designers: an open forum, an opportunity for round-table debate, for the benefit of all those who, in different roles, contribute to the evolution of design.

Designing Designers is a Cosmit spa initiative organised by Fondazione Cosmit Eventi; promoted by the Facoltà del Design of the Politecnico di Milano in conjunction with Federlegno-Arredo.
